What important times in American History don't have a historical doll?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Why shouldn't they add another immigrant girl? Kirsten's family were also immigrants, although from Sweden. Actually everybody except Kaya came from an immigrant family, although their family will have lived in the States for a longer period already.

For a Southener, I would like to see an Acadian girl -- like Longfellow's _Evangeline_...hmm, if memory serves that would be 1780s, I think...

I like Grapedy's ideas of a Russian immigrant girl, but I have my own personal reasons as well (Diana!)

Also, would love the idea of the Vietnamese girl, and our own Lieu could probably right the books herself!

I would like to see an immigrant girl who actually experiences Ellis island.
I think that Nellie came from immigrant parents but that she was born in the USA.

I really wan't a Virgin Island girl, a suggar-mearchants daughter from early 1800's. I too have a personal reason to wan't this doll, the islands were Danish then! So ofcourse that wouldn't really be an American girl, but the islands are American now, so that should count [img]tongue.gif[/img]
I'm reading "Gone with the Wind" at the moment, so ofcourse right now I'm all into crinoline dresses, beautiful shawls and fans, so a true Southern Belle would be nice.
About the pilgrim doll, I think it is very important that they make one, because the ways and the ideas of the pilgrims are still so important to how Americans see them selves and what role their politicians feel that they should play in the world. I'm trying hard not to be too political here (I'm a politician so it is hard for me [img]wink.gif[/img] ) But I once went to some lectures (by an American) on the Puritan Pilgrims and how their thoughts still influence America today, and afterwards I felt that I could so much better understand American politics.
Well to get back to "dolly-world", I don't see it as a problem that a Pilgrim girl wouldn't own that much, it would be an easier collection to finish and perhaps finacially more families could overcome it if it was a 4 outfits, 5 asseccories, 3 pieces of furniture and not 25 outfits, 15 asseccories aso.

Kathrine, you brought up a really good point of the size of the Pilgrim collection. Having a smaller collection would probably be a good thing and give people an easier time collecting everything. I soooo agree with you on the influence of the Puritans. You can trace back so much of our political AND civic culture back to them, for good or bad. I myself would really like to see a French-Canadian girl living in northern MI. Many people from Michigan can trace their ancestory, including myself, to these immigrants. There culture was very interesting because French-Canadians were more likely than other immigrant groups to marry Navtive Americans and because of the climate they lived in (in both Canada and Northern MI) they relied more on fur trade, hunting and fishing for survival rather than a large farm. They retained their culture for a long time as well. My hometown is the second oldest in the state and was founded by French-Canadians and french was spoken fluently well into the 20th century, even as late as the 1930s you could hear it in the outside farmlands of the town, and this is in SouthEast MI! Anyway, enough of the HST lesson, I actually have already decided that Im going to get a AGT and turn her into a MI frontier girl to represent my familys past. [img]graemlins/smarty.gif[/img]

I agree that the only problem with a pilgrim girl would be that she would lack a more vivid collection. I would love it personally, but I know that smaller girls would rather have a pretty doll dressed in silk or taffeta like Samantha. I think that's partly why Samantha is so popular - smaller girls like the "pretty dresses"/

I hope they DO NOT make a Pilgrim doll. I'll take care of that for you all... don't worry but I am afraid they would mess it all up. She wouldn't even have four outfits, she would have two-one for meeting and one for everyday. They would be the same except that the Meeting dress might be made of nicer material like wool. She would not have many toys, no books, her accessories would be food and work related items. I have a whole collection planned out in my head for Susanna the Puritan, which is similar except Puritan children didn't play and their rules were a bit more strict, but don't tell Susanna because she's a bit of a rebellious teenager! Like the Southern experience, you can not truly know about the Pilgrims unless you grew up here and have visited Plimoth Plantation (especially in the freezing cold or sweltering heat) and talked with the "Pilgrims" to know what their lives were like. Their lives were not glamorous or fun. They worked hard and had a harsh life.

Ooooo! Enough though the collection would be very small, I would like to see a Pilgrim girl. I also love the idea of a girl from the Orgeon trail. Definetly need an Asian girl! I also like the idea of a girl from the 1960's. Alot happened in that decade with civil rights that has shaped the world we live in today. I'm not sure, but wasn't AGOT Lindsey Jewish? If not, there's another doll I'd like to see made.

One person mentioned doing an Islamic girl for 2004...though that's a ways off, of course....but I would suggest to break the '4' line and have the girl's "Changes..." story depict the events of Septemeber 11th and the following prejucide the American Muslims experinced in the weeks following it. It's a long ways, but those events will always have an important place in history.
